Radiation: is it really dangerous?

“Unless you are purposely collecting and storing radioactive material incorrectly, its not dangerouos”

~mr burns

since the 1940s we have looked at radiation as the moster that had to be conqured or feared, but is it really as bad as science fiction would have you beleieve? lets explore this concept

The Facts

many people believed that radiation illnesses are a major factor for dying of cancer but

illnessrate
skin cancer60,000-90,000
smoking7,000,000 (1.5m from secondhand smoke)
acute radiation syndrome 60-100 SINCE WWll
Per Captia Mortality of different diseases

The truth

radiation is a calculatable risk. we can use certain tools to keep a safe measurement of this risk but in most cases, radioactive material that most people can gain access too is not very dangerous. we have lived alongside it for thousands of years, and unless you are purposely collecting it and storing it very incorrectly, its not dangerous.
